Joan Sweet is a Certified Music Practitioner with the
Music for Healing and Transition Program. She plays at
a Catholic Healthcare West Hospital in the neo-natal care
unit and in oncology and med-neuro units. Joan also plays
harp at the bedsides for hospital and hospice patients
and for the small infants in the Neo Natal Intensive Care
Unit of the Mercy San Juan Hospital.
Since moving to San Diego she plays her harp for patients
with VITAS HOSPICE of San Diego and Hospice of North Coast
in Carlsbad Ca. She also sings with Threshold Choir and
the Pacific Women's Chorus
MUSICIAN
Joan is a harpist and singer. She plays with the Capital Valley Harp Circle organization, and the Sweet Reed Harp Flute Duo (Joan Sweet on harp and Mary Reed on flute.) The duo plays professionally for weddings, memorial services, luncheons, and other venues.
Joan sings with the Silver Swan Singers, a professional madrigal group complete with costumes. She also sings with the Camarata California, a professional chamber choir specializing in Baroque music.
Joan has been a mezzo soprano soloist with the Sacramento Symphony, the University of California, Davis Orchestra, traveled to Europe as a soloist with the Sacramento Chorale, The Davis Chorale and the James Mitchell Chorale. She received an award from the Carmel Bach Festival for five years of performing.

Joan is a a retired elementary classroom music teacher with the public schools. She received an award from the Sacramento City Unified School District for her musical work with special education students. She serves on the board of four musical and arts organizations for the City of Sacramento, the Camellia Symphony Education Board, the Crocker Art Museum Classical Concert Board, the Sacramento Saturday Club Board (music scholarships for college students organization) and the board of Camarata California.
Joan is soon to be listed in the "Who's Who in America's Teachers. She is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon Music Fraternity, and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She did post graduate work at the University of California, Santa Cruz earning an Orff certification to teach Orff musical instruments and the method of music education to children.
