Denial by Axiom of Choice The principal members of this talented
7-member band are all well-versed in classical Persian
music, and though the melodies and rhythms of Radif
- the Persian classical repertoire - saturate their
brooding, deeply moving disc, they are by no means slaves
to tradition. The effect is utterly beautiful, as is
the voice of Mamak Khadem, which rings out through the
album like a crystalline bell of despair and pain. On
the opening track, "Valeh," she's multitracked
over Torkian's descending arpeggios, her "voices"

Unfolding Axiom of Choice Unfolding gives Eastern music
a Western twist. Torkian's guitar playing provides the
cornerstone for the album. His rapid acoustic strums race
along with Bikram Ghosh's frenetically dancing tabla on
"Turquoise Land." His ambient axework glides
through a delicately woven tapestry of electric cello,
percussion, and voice on "Evanescent," while
the sublime combination of his quarter-tone guitar and
Martin Tillman's electric cello on "Through the Shadows,

Aeterna by Constance Demby Dedicated to the healing of

Through much of AEterna the grand piano sings the dominant

recording was captured with a minumum of engineering and

Attunement ranges from the raw, sensual cries of the Demby
Earth Mother to the Bachian passages of organ and chorus.

Demby "Light of this World: offers
a sampler of the music from Demby's 1978 Skies above Skies
through the 1986 masterpiece Novus Magnificat; two bonus
tracks were written for this compilation album. The title
track opens the album, an inspiring and brash pop vocal
piece (Demby sounds remarkably like Bette Midler) with
female backup vocals, hot drums, electric guitar emulator,and
bass.
Novus
Magnificat: Through The Stargate by
Constance Demby Novus Magnificat, a gorgeous,
otherworldly opus from classically trained pianist Constance
Demby, has become a true classic in New Age music, appealing
to a wide variety of listeners, many of whom are ordinarily
put off by the genre. Rooted in worship music of the Western
tradition, Demby's majestic improvisational vision produces
what the 1986 disc's liner notes call "Contemporary
classical Spacemusic: A Magnificat and Exaltate."
Incorporating the central voice of synthesizer with a
string-and-horn section, piano, organ, bells, and tympani,
a choral voice joins with instrumental passages, setting
a blissfully reverent tone throughout this two-part melodious
marvel. Master composers Bach and Vivaldi come to mind
when hearing the keyed chord progressions and swirling
strings, making Novus Magnificat a keenly majestic score
for use during massage, labor and birth, meditation, worship,

Demby Leading mother figure and genuinely
evolutionary composer and performer of New Age music,
Constance Demby makes a piece of shimmering beauty on
her 1982 offering, Sacred Space Music. The recording's
