|
The Tao of Cello
by David Darling

This re-release from the Grammy nominated, world-renowned
cellist David Darling features 22 improvisational pieces
for solo cello that showcase the spontaneous nature and
creative potential of the human spirit. Each of the songs
is titled with an excerpt from passages in the Tao Te
Ching, a seminal work by Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.
This collection of songs is enchanting, relaxing, and
beautiful. |
|
Epigraphs
by David Darling with Ketil Bjornstad

The music is achingly beautiful, carrying
one along as if it is a dance in slow motion, with each
note just perfect at just the right time. Even though
it invokes an almost meditative calm, it is quite different
from other acoustic new age efforts. Rather than simply
being background or sonic wallpaper, there is real depth
to the compositions. Or are they improvisations, because
one senses that this music flows directly from the hearts
of the artists rather than their heads. |

Aeterna
by Constance Demby

Dedicated to the healing of
the heart, and considered "an album of epic proportions"
by critics, the music is propelled beyond earthly confines
with Demby at the electronic podium. She combines the
rich melodicism of the Russian masters with the sublime
aspirations of Bach, then blows them both out of the water.
Through much of AEterna the grand piano sings the dominant
voice. This album has a way of going into the heart and
healing suppressed feelings by bringing them forth, and
then cleansing and clearing them with a sonic therapeutic
bath. |
|
Attunement
by Constance Demby

Attunement's live performance
recording was captured with a minumum of engineering and
recorded in vivid, spectacular sound. Those expecting
another Novus Magnificat or Aeterna need to open their
ears to other vistas they may never have suspected existed.
But in the lens of Demby's all-encompassing Camera Obscura,
Attunement ranges from the raw, sensual cries of the Demby
Earth Mother to the Bachian passages of organ and chorus.
The textures are constantly changing, like the colors
and fragrances of a secret garden. You round another corner
and are greeted with an even more beautiful blossom than
before.-David DeLucia |

Faces
of the Christ by Constance
Demby

Originally composed for the
video of the same name, the score is a 58 minute uninterrupted
stream of serene, symphonic sacred music inspired by the
vibration of the Christ energy. Intimate, contemplative,
ambient, moving. Good for meditation or atmospheric uplift. |
|
Light
of This World by Constance
Demby

"Light of this World: offers
a sampler of the music from Demby's 1978 Skies above Skies
through the 1986 masterpiece Novus Magnificat; two bonus
tracks were written for this compilation album. The title
track opens the album, an inspiring and brash pop vocal
piece (Demby sounds remarkably like Bette Midler) with
female backup vocals, hot drums, electric guitar emulator, and
bass. |

Novus
Magnificat: Through The Stargate by
Constance Demby

Novus Magnificat, a gorgeous,
otherworldly opus from classically trained pianist Constance
Demby, has become a true classic in New Age music, appealing
to a wide variety of listeners, many of whom are ordinarily
put off by the genre. Rooted in worship music of the Western
tradition, Demby's majestic improvisational vision produces
what the 1986 disc's liner notes call "Contemporary
classical Spacemusic: A Magnificat and Exaltate."
Incorporating the central voice of synthesizer with a
string-and-horn section, piano, organ, bells, and tympani,
a choral voice joins with instrumental passages, setting
a blissfully reverent tone throughout this two-part melodious
marvel. Master composers Bach and Vivaldi come to mind
when hearing the keyed chord progressions and swirling
strings, making Novus Magnificat a keenly majestic score
for use during massage, labor and birth, meditation, worship,
or relaxation. --Paige La Grone |

Sacred
Space Music by Constance
Demby

Leading mother figure and genuinely
evolutionary composer and performer of New Age music,
Constance Demby makes a piece of shimmering beauty on
her 1982 offering, Sacred Space Music. The recording's
first half, "The Longing," is a magical blend
of hammered dulcimer, piano, and viola, a piece that speaks
for the hungry human spirit. In answer, the second half,
"Radiance," brings together the pleasing sounds
of hammered dulcimer, string synthesizer, tinkling bells,
and heavenly choral vocals. Elegant, exotic, and edifying,
Demby's inspired music is sonic light by which to see.

Sanctum
Sanctorum by Constance
Demby

"The opening minutes of
this album herald a quality the likes of which you will
rarely hear on a synth album. The first piece stops you
in your tracks with its sheer, almost overwhelming beauty…
for this is the sound of heaven - like never before. It
really is almost overwhelming, one of the most beautiful
musical experiences I think I've ever heard in this genre...
There is a lot of music out there to be lived, but few
that truly touch the soul - this is one of the few."

Set
Free by Constance Demby

Set Free deserves a place next
to the symphonic space-music classic of Novus Magnificat.
This release journeys even deeper into the intensely moving
electronic soundscapes that was developed in other recordings.
Newly noticeable are rhythmic influences from the Balinese
and African cultures that are unabashedly ritualistic
and celebratory in nature. But, Demby has not forgotten
her roots; the last four tracks, taken together, create
a majestic celestial voyage for inner travelers. |

Skies
Above Skies by Constance
Demby

Demby draws from an international
palette of musical mysticism on this 1978 spiritual album.
Meditative drones from twanging tamboura, noble organ
chords, shimmering waves of the hammered dulcimer, and
cello overtones overlap to create sonic tapestries, heady
settings for seven chants and prayers sung by Demby.
The Tibetan chant "Om Mani Padme Hum" offers
intoxicating layers upon layers of sounds and voices.
The Chinese-flavored "Peace of God," with lyrics
by Annie Besant, dances suspensefully between the flittering
of the hammered dulcimer and the deeply resonant twang
of the Chinese cheng (a koto-like instrument). The Chinese
mode is employed again on "El Mie." The "St.
Francis Prayer" brings words above the plateaus of
the hammered dulcimer. The devotional "Sant Ji"
brings in just a touch of synthesizer sweetening to create
expansive vistas of heaven; listening is almost like flying. |

Sonic
Immersion by Constance Demby

Recorded live at Tom Kenyon's
Sound Healing Conference, this guided meditation is performed
with the cosmic penetrating frequencies of the Sonic Steel
Space Bass, a very powerful healing instrument. An original
design of Constance Demby's, the Space Bass has been recorded
by Lucas Skywalker Studios for their filmscores, and filmed
by Discovery Channel. The low frequencies and long standing
waves of the Space Bass (some 30 ft long), are potent
and penetrating, and tend to break up old encrustations. |
|
Spirit
Trance by Constance Demby

Spirit Trance includes soundscapes
and atmospheres that are gentle and soft, exactly what
listeners and meditaters have come to expect, know and
crave from Constance's music. The music has strong holistic
healing and psychoactive overtone properties. Many of
the offerings on this CD have been used in film scores.

Sunborne
by Constance Demby

Sunborne is a full-bodied, five-movement,
symphonic tone-poem with lyrics from the "Emerald
Tablets," an ancient text by Toth / Hermes Trismegistus.
The recording--using keyboard synthesizer, zither, gamelon,
the sparkling hammered dulcimer, cheng, tabla, percussion,
and vocals--evokes ancient primordial stirrings and heady
futuristic space voyages, watery depths and exploding
rays of light. The title cut swirls and blips with inner
electronic space galaxies powered by a driving percussion
and Demby's centered, hypnotic voice. "One with the
Light" begins with the breathtaking and resonant
Chinese cheng which is then joined by the plaintive cries
of the Whale Sail. Its voyage through the empty, echoing
void is heartbreaking until Demby's eternal voice encourages
its return to the light. |
