 PRACTITIONER

Lyz has been working in the holistic health field since 1981 with various modalities including Reiki, spiritual healing and massage. In 1994 she discovered the power of sound for improving health and well-being. After many year's research and development, Lyz formulated a technique which combines Himalayan (Tibetan) singing bowls, voice (toning and overtoning) and crystal bowls together. This technique combined with a diagnostic of the energy system before and after treatment forms the basis of the treatment Lyz teaches and gives today. Since then Lyz has added Mantra, gong, tuning forks and drum to her repertoire, teaching these as additional modules to the Sound Therapy Diploma Course (see below). In 2001 Lyz formed The British Academy of Sound Therapy - sister company to Soundworks (founded in 1997). Through Soundworks and BAST, Lyz has dedicated a large part of her life to her passion which is promoting the importance of sound as a powerful tool for healing and transformation.

 MUSICIAN

Although Lyz has no formal musical training (other than guitar and recorder lessons at school), her passion for creating music has grown through working with sound as a therapeutic tool. In 2001 Lyz released her first CD 'Chakra Balance' which is a combination of music and therapeutic sound that are woven together to form a balancing piece. In 2002 came the release of Crystal and Stone, a live performance of crystal singing bowls at Stonehenge.

In 2001 Lyz formed Soundscapes, a group of sound practitioners who combine music and sound with a healing intention. Performing continuously for one hour, Soundscapes weave a collage of sounds including cello, monochord, voice, flutes, fujara, percussion, chimes, gongs and more around the audience, bathing them in a sonic cuddle. Many audience members report receiving relief from their symptoms, and some report travelling to other realms, meeting guides and receiving guidance. Soundscapes like to perform at sacred sites such as Stonehenge and other stone circles and powerful places. They perform at the Solstices and Equinoxes as well as festival times. They also 'fuse' different cultures such as their Samhain and Diwali 'East meets West' performance. They also like to work with totem animals and tell sonic stories 'When Crow Swallowed the Sun' and 'The Tears of the Ice Maiden' aim to work the ancient art of story telling with sound and combine it with the shamanistic intention of dancing between the worlds. Soundscapes' first recording 'Emergence' is being released in time for the 2006 Summer Solstice.

Sound Healing Instruments
The British Academy of Sound Therapy source a large selection of instruments such as gongs, drums and percussion, Himalayan (Tibetan) singing bowls, crystal bowls (clear, frosted and beautiful practitioner bowls), chimes, bells and so much more. All are fairly traded and individually chosen with love. Sound Essences Lyz Cooper has developed a range of sound essences to help balance the mind, body, spirit system on all levels. The Harmonia essences were born due to the need for Lyz to reach people who could not travel to receive treatment, and to give her clients between sessions. The essences produced such amazing and positive results Lyz decided to release two ranges. The Chakra collection works with imbalances relating to the chakras, The Mantra Collection works with certain holding patterns that relate to various issues in life. A new and exciting collection is about to be released, check the website for further information.

Music without words means leaving behind the mind. And leaving behind the mind is meditation.
Meditation returns you to the source. And the source of all is sound. — Kabir
