Healing Sonic Greetings:
The Healing Music Organization has recently gone through a major transformation. If you haven't visited our website in the last few months, you are in for a wondrous surprise. Last summer we joined our vision and intention for helping to heal the world through sound and music with a company who has a similar vision.
Last summer I met Kris Thayer, President of SongPeddler.com through a very "synchronistic" event. I ordered a CD on-line from Song Peddler and when Kris saw my email address, she knew that we needed to meet. The rest is "his-her/story." Since meeting Kris and her partners at Song Peddler, The Healing Music Organization has undergone the "ultimate website makover" through our amazing collaboration.
When I founded The Healing Music Organiztaion in early 2000 I didn't have the systems in place to manage the astonishing growth that we have experienced over the years. While we had a wealth of research and resources to share with you, we didn't have the technical expertise to grow the website the way it needed to grow to handle the tremendous amount of information that we amased over these short six years.
We are amazed and proud at the growth of our organization since its inception, and we are honored to bring this information to you to assist you in your personal growth. Please take full advantage of what we have to offer. If you need assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Our intention in re-creating the HealingMusic.Org website was to create a balance between being visually beautiful and valuable in content. We’ve taken great care to create an easy-to-navigate site that allows the viewer to discover information at a pace that works for them.

Using Sedative Music in Treating
Anxiety and Panic

This paper was presented by the composer at the 2005 American Music Therapy Association Conference in Orlando, Florida
At the time of onset of my anxiety symptoms in 1987, I felt heightened sensitivity to sound, light, motion, volume, and aural activity. My response was to isolate. Many of the symptoms of classic anxiety were present (nervousness, ringing in the ears, muscle tension, rapid pulse, rapid breathing). My search for prerecorded extremely slow, deeply relaxing music yielded very few results, so a counselor suggested I compose music that reflected the way I would like to feel.
Using sedative music (rather than medication), I felt an increased sense of control, confidence, focus, and mobility, as I gathered the tools for a healthier and saner life. Episodes of anxiety, panic and overwhelm became less and less frequent. A growing sense of independence and working hard at my healing regimen helped to restore my sense of “having a life”, and assisted me in the re-socialization process.

 Hildegard vonBingen was a remarkable woman, a ‘first’ in many fields. At a time when few women wrote, she produced major works of theology, music and visionary writings. She used the curative powers of music and natural objects for healing. She is the first composer whose biography is known. Her story is an inspirational account of an irresistible spirit and vibrant intellect overcoming social, physical, cultural, and gender barriers.
This set includes a dramatization of Hildegard's life from the BBC. It features Patricia Routledge (best known to us Americans as Hyacinth Bucket on the BBC program, 'Keeping Up Appearances,' but for many years a serious actress) as the German abbess Hildegard. Again, the mise en scène is gorgeous, the acting beautifully done. The hour-long program portrays the highlights of Hildegard's life in scrupulous detail. This is followed, on DVD 2, by a 50-minute documentary, with a good deal of music from the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., about Hildegard. It brings a different slant to the story, and makes use of meticulously researched and presented graphics from the period.

What do Harps and Houses have in Common?
Virginia Bethune, one of The Healing Music Organization's healing practitioners members, has been a keyboardist all her life, serving as organist for fourteen years
(1989-2003) at Blacksburg United Methodist Church in southwest Virginia. She is also a Certified Music Practitioner with the Music for Healing and Transition Program.
But these days Virginia's healing music is helping to build houses. In 2002 the music staff at Blacksburg United Methodist Church began the Build-a-Habitat-House-with-Music project; to date nearly $50,000 has been raised through the sales of 7 CDs produced by staff members. To celebrate the 20th year of New River Valley Habitat, the oldest affiliate in the state, a HARP EXTRAVAGANZA is planned for Sept '06 in Blacksburg.
