MUSICIAN
Geoff's
first career was as a 60's Rhythm and Blues and jazz trumpet
player. Today he performs with the group Kindred Spirits,
with the philosophy that Kindred Spirits is not the name
of a band, but represents the communion among musicians
and audience, a state of consciounsss! In ancient Irigh
mythology, music was thought of a comprising an emotional
triad - music for happiness, music for sadness, and music
for dreaming and meditation. The old Celtic music-makers
were more than just musicians, and were considered to
be guides for souls into other worlds. "Anam"
is the Gaelic word for Soul, and "Cara" is friend.
So "anam cara" in the celtic world was a soul
friend. The genious of the Celtic culture is in its unitive
nature. There is no divide between body and mind, self
and spirit, wo/man and nature, person and God. "There
is no cage that can confine the movements of divine light
as it flows from one to the other," writes John O'Donohue,
an Irish priest, poet and Hegelian scholar. In addition
to the tumpet, Geoff performs on six and twelve string
acoustic and classical guitars, mandolin, pennywhistle,
Great Scottish Highland Bagpipes, Djembe and Native American
Drum (which he made for a Lakota Pipe Ceremony.)

Jung Center of Winchester
The
C.G. Jung Center of Winchester was established in 1988
as a "non-clinical" part of their counseling
practice by Geoff and Joyce Byrd as a place for practicing
the transformative and imaginative creative arts. The
purpose of the center is to offer programs for creative
expression of the Self and the mysteries of the human
Soul, enrichment, personal and relational enhancement,
psycho-spiritual development, and perhaps consciousness
realization and spiritual enlightenment. Optimal psychological
health and wisdom - compassionate, loving and intimate
relationships - peaceful and harmonious living for benefit
of all beings - are inherent aspects of the fully awakened
State. Self Realization is a state of consiousnesws which
is available to any of us in any place and at any time.
Music without words means leaving behind the mind. And leaving behind the mind is meditation.
Meditation returns you to the source. And the source of all is sound. — Kabir
